- Strict adherence to tradition
- very little modern technology allowed
- physically isolated from the rest of the world
- Children are indoctrinated in the tradition and expected to continue it
- history of bloody power struggles for control of the tradition
- entire half of the village (males) excluded and marginalized to the degree that we don’t see any of them.
