summary: In the hospital, Phoenix asks Miles to compromise his principles.
The hospital room was quiet, and dim, and filled with stillness in the pause of their conversation, broken only by the beep of the monitor that was hooked to the man that he’d feared dead.
“You had better appreciate the way I’m compromising myself for you, Phoenix,” Miles said in a low voice. He closed the defense attorney badge tightly in his palm and turned to go.
He stopped– Phoenix had caught him by the wrist and pulled him back.
They stared at one another for a heartbeat– and Phoenix suddenly pulled him close. Their lips met for the first time, and Miles thought he was dying from the way his heart jumped. He struggled for a moment. This was improper, this was wrong, what would people think?
But he’d wanted it. Oh he’d wanted it so much, for so long. It had been all that Miles could think about after the day that Phoenix Wright had saved and ruined his life.
He melted into the kiss, and suddenly their arms were around another, and it wasn’t enough, it would never be enough.
And then it was over. And Phoenix Wright was smiling his stupid, cocky smile at him, and Miles felt like his face was on fire.
He stared at the other man in plain astonishment the tears that had threatened to break loose when he’d first entered the room finally spilling over his hot cheeks
He had no idea what to say.
And Phoenix was just smiling. Finally, Phoenix spoke.
“Don’t worry, Miles. I get it.”
And that was it. And the spell was broken.
Miles wiped her mouth and looked away, all of his clothes feeling too hot and too tight.
“I swear, Wright, if you gave me your damned cold…”
