The investigation into the fire and death at the Embassy had been a disaster. Lang felt like a cornered dog, his leg aching from the bullet sunken into his calf and the humiliation of that damned prettyboy Edgeworth’s logical argument dismantling everything he knew about the case at hand.

Worst of all was her, Shih-na. His second in command, the mother wolf to his pack, and the woman currently standing with tears in her eyes and an animalistic grin on her beautiful face.

She’d laughed the whole way outside, only to stop dead the moment she saw the moon. Now they stood in the silence amid the murmuring of his men.

Shih-na was his right hand…his secretary, and on countless investigations, his lover and confidant. He loved her, and she’d told him she loved him too.

But it’d all been a farce. He could feel the loss of respect from his pack all around him as he lead her to the car and barked for them to leave them alone.

She was a spy, after all. An agent sent by hell knows who to steal and kill and mislead. Anger bubbled inside him as he growled low under his breath.

“Hahh…”

She’d sighed, drawing his attention sharply to her. She was standing in the light of the moon, hands behind her back bound tight in steel handcuffs, and smiling still.

“Guess it’s game over, Shifu.”

The title shook him from his furious musing, her use of it when the jig was up and she could have discarded it as easy as she did her hair sticks to that little thief girl.

“Tch…ain’t over by a long shot, Shih-na…Yew…whatever the hell your name is.” He moved quick, snatching her by the lapels and bringing her close as the rest of his subordinates vanished into the night. “…We’ll have a talk. A nice, long talk. You get me?”

The nameless spy tilted her head , a low chuckle escaping her lips “crystal clear. Not like I got much of a choice, sir.”

She smiled at him, and the familiarity mingled with something sick in the pit of his stomach. Before he knew it he had her against the car, his lips roughly pressed to hers in a desperate kiss that teetered on the edge of something feral.

The handcuffs clinked against the door, but he felt her respond. The two kissed with the kind of feverish, desperate and furious desire under the light of the moon…teeth and tongues, and his hands firmly on her shoulders.

When it broke, her immaculate lipstick was smudged across her cheek, and her eyes were…for the briefest of seconds, the burning eyes of the lover he’d held close all this time.

“….think long and hard, Shih-na.” he muttered as the expression passed into the tired, empty stare of the nameless spy.

“I want answers. The future rides on what you’re willing to tell me.”

She bowed her head with a jagged smile…shoulders shaking with a low and keening laugh “of course, Shifu.”

As he pushed her into the back of the car, he let the slam of the door act as the punctuation mark to the end of this opening act. He wouldn’t let Edgeworth…or Shih-na…have the last laugh.
